Bearing Pad Replacement
Bearing pads are an integral part of almost every concrete structure, allowing movement to occur between various segments without damaging the structure.  Bearing pads wear out however, and often need to be replaced.  The most common bearing pad replacement scenario is the hundreds of pads in a typical precast parking garage, one under every “T” stem.  Some of the more challenging bearing pad replacement projects are on large bridges such as the one depicted in this picture.  The Pine Valley Bridge just outside San Diego California required 2,500,000 pounds of force to lift the enormous concrete box girder section at the abutment.  Truesdell completed the task without a hitch.   So, most bearing pad replacement projects are more about the effort in lifting and jacking of the structure than about the cost of the pad itself.
